Rod Hembree – Th.D. D.E.
First, the Bible is not an ordinary book. It is unique. It is unlike any other history book presenting history in ways we are used to. It does not bring cultures other than Israel to the present, or the forefront, as you might demand. It details the building of Israel as a nation from the viewpoint of a third party. God is not concerned with any religious culture other than Israel and Israel’s offspring, the Christians – for good reason. God seeks the lost!
God is communicating His message of hope to a hopeless world. He has chosen Christian belief system to do just that. Not a group with unusual perfection. In terms of His justice and righteousness, God is perfect. In terms of His mercy, God shows amazing grace. In terms of His judgment, God is untouchable. All of these things capture only a fragment of His essence.
1 – THE BIBLE IS A BOOK ABOUT GOD’S PERFECTION!
Secondly, the Bible is a book about redemption. It communicates the change that God works on people with a ‘bad record.’ The Bible deals with Israel but does so in a way that is both unique and forgiving. God shows those of us who read it how to deal with (and confront) sin and the sin nature inside a Holy plan. Sin is never forgotten nor is it cast away into the rubbish. Sin can (and will) be remembered, but the sinner will be forgiven. Jesus Christ reveals His help (and His hope) that sin will be finished once and for all.
Sin is confronted on a regular basis among mankind. Sin is the commonplace corruption that must be overcome – no matter what.
2 – THE BIBLE IS A BOOK ABOUT SIN AND ABOUT THE REDEMPTION OF SINNERS.
We continue our journey through the Bible. We learn the importance of God’s grace and His discipline. Think about this when you read the Bible.
