THE VOICE OF GOD
The voice of God needs no justification when it speaks about the way things are, which in sum is the position that man is in: Sin. Sin has dominated our beings ever since the world’s first parents, Adam and Eve, fell into temptation and disobeyed God. God had told them to avoid the tree that bears the fruit of the Knowledge of Good and Evil (Gen. 2:17). The scriptures tell us three things that tempted them: 1) Eve saw that the tree was good for food, 2) that it was a delight to the eyes, and 3) the tree was desired to make one wise, (Gen. 3:6) then she took it and they both ate it. This was the beginning of sin in mankind.
TEMPTATIONS CHANGED OUR STATE OF MIND
These temptations were already met in the knowledge of God. Food, a delight to the eyes and knowledge to make one wise. God had provided this for everyone if they would have listened to Him instead of satan. Since ‘the fall’ the world has grown dark and sinful. We have invented religions to seek the God of the universe. Death had become the end of life. There is no one who is immortal. Mortality has become the way of thinking for all of us. So when we think of God, being immortal, we do not understand Him. Our mortal state of mind is fixed within us and when someone says that we can become immortal it seems nearly impossible or very hard to understand.
That is what the prophets talked about when they spoke of God. They encountered the divine mind as opposed to the flawed and sickened mind. When we become “saved” from our sin it is because we have invited Jesus Christ into our hearts, repented and His Spirit has RENEWED our mind and spirit. This is important when we read the prophets because they are very hard to understand unless we see, know and follow God. The prophets are real men who were saved by God and decided to let themselves be used to speak His voice to us in the Bible. When we read their words we must realize that they speak from the divine mind and the things that say are eternal. The prophets speak to us on earth, to know how the heavens work and how the earth changes when God becomes involved.
When we read and hear the prophets, major or minor, we must remember that this is God’s way to make His voice known among humans upon the earth. We should listen to them very carefully.
