There are countless claims made in today’s mega-world of mega-media prescribing their ideas for living a happy and healthy life. But the Bible has been proclaiming the truth about that for thousands of years. The WORD reports that we need only the HOLY SPIRIT as our “LIFE COACH.” The Bible prescribes the only advice worth listening to in tough times comes from those fully engaged in living for Christ through the Spirit of God. Colossians 4 offers the prescription for successfully living the Bible believer’s life.
“Masters, give your bondservants what is just and fair, knowing that you also have a Master in heaven.
2 Continue earnestly in prayer, being vigilant in it with thanksgiving; 3 meanwhile praying also for us, that God would open to us a door for the word, to speak the mystery of Christ, for which I am also in chains, 4 that I may make it manifest, as I ought to speak.
5 Walk in wisdom toward those who are outside, redeeming the time. 6 Let your speech always be with grace, seasoned with salt, that you may know how you ought to answer each one.”
Unity in the church is a direct result of unity with the ideas of Christ in our own hearts. When we are one with Christ, we will be one with each other. To operate in the Spirit means to esteem others better than ourselves and conduct ourselves in the divine mode of selflessness rather than selfishness. This is what Colossians 4 is telling us. At work, rest or play, we must serve the methods of Jesus Christ in every way. This does not mean we are soft-minded wimps with no character or passion. What it does mean is we see each other as created in the image of God with the calling of God upon each of us. It means bosses not only treat employees honorably but be willing to learn from them. It means respecting, honoring and restoring dignity to the human race.
