Angels have frequented the pages of scripture leaving us a view into the spiritual world. There are three angels mentioned by name in the bible. Michael one of the chief princes, Gabriel who stands before God and Lucifer who became Satan. With many mentions throughout the old and new testaments these messengers have quite the resumé; one angel stood in the way of the prophet-for-hire Balaam, another interpreted Gideon’s dream, others have brought news of children to come. As punishment for Pharaoh’s pride an angel slew the firstborn throughout Egypt. Angels preserved the Hebrews from a fiery furnace and a lions den and even displayed miraculous power on behalf of some of the apostles. Most intriguing of all is how involved angels were in the birth, life, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. From the announcement of His birth to rolling away the stone from His tomb, these celestial beings have been at work. So what are the Biblical roles of angels?
